Sketchbooks are an artist’s BFF! I have countless sketchbooks, ranging from hemp, vellum, rice, and gloss paper. For the last few years I use Bienfang’s Recycled Notesketch books and I adore them, because half the page is lined for text, half is blank, for drawing.
Sketching is an important part of my process. It allows the imagination to express itself in a spontaneous way. Sketching is thinking on paper, testing out ideas, and practicing techniques.

I swear, doodling got me through college and grad school. A lot of my current practice was based on my doodles in classes like “Personal Culture,” “Geographic Imaginations,” “Alternative Contexts,” and “Environmental Art and Philosophy.” As I processed all the info, I let my hand wander, and voilá! New art was born.

Thanks for taking a peek!
