Sometimes, despite complete chaos, art still demands to be born. ‘Her Royal Lioness’ was such a piece. Bringing my visions to life keeps me sane, so an intense desire to create can bring balance to a very hectic time.
I use a method to find my calm: I listen to nature and do a visualization. I invite my most divine-self to sit across from me, and shine light from her third eye to mine, then from her throat to mine, then from her heart to mine…
This time, I saw a woman with a lion-like mane; a fashion accessory, but more – a crown of ferocious glory. A ruler of one’s own mind, sovereign in her calmness during the storm – regal, royal, and real. Just what I needed to get through those hectic weeks – a deep reserve of strength.
To be calm is the highest achievement of the self. – Yogi Bhajan
Remember the fable about the contest for the most peaceful painting? – the winner wasn’t the most calm image; it depicted an intense lightning storm, and in the corner, a mama bird calmly holding her little ones in her nest.
What art offers is space – a certain breathing room for the spirit. – John Updike
I love this work. The vibrant colors and different approach to the negative space create a dynamic, strong piece that I really cherish. I’m jealous of whomever winds up with her!
Enjoy a time-lapse of the process, complete with a happy dance at the end! –
