I started this piece in a struggle with myself. So I set it aside for a bit. During this time, I went to the Grateful Dead’s Fare Thee Well shows in Santa Clara. The eye candy was unreal — the lights and visuals were the best production I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been to a lot of shows. This was some next level inspiration.
Ancient Drums
2015 | 36 x 36″ | paints on stretched canvas | og and prints available
I came home and revisited this piece with fresh eyes and an open heart. Layers built upon layers, effortlessly this time, and voilá! My emotions poured out through the brush and I was able to capture those layers somehow too.
For me this piece is a reminder to live life, to celebrate friends and music, to find illumination in those ancient drums by the nighttime fire.
So thanks to the Dead’s 50th, and all those hearts and minds the music changed forever, because I came home refreshed and renewed from it all.
