Visio Kardia (Vision of the Heart)
2014 | 12 x 16″ | acrylic and oils on wood
I’m back with the oils! After a longtime gone. I’m sensing an oil paint phase coming up here… They have their quirks but the smoothness and mixability just can’t be beat.
I’m kind of laughing at myself looking over the past few months — knowing I wanted to paint more, after years of focusing on graphite, so I was experimenting a lot with acrylic, gouache, and watercolor. Oil was in the back of my mind the whole time but the tricky side was scaring me away. The cleanup, toxicity, and long drying time all seemed so daunting… but now that I’ve delved back in, I’m hooked.
Visio Kardia was born slowly, but surely. She unfolded in a very clear vision and I’m happy with how she turned out. Visio is Latin for Vision, and Kardia, Greek for Heart. I hope I captured that ephemeral feeling when seeing / feeling beyond the eyes and mind.
