When I work on larger scale pieces, another, smaller, more humble body of work accidentally forms as well. I think of this as “Process Art,” as it’s the residue of testing colors, activating paint pens, and perhaps practicing a line or two.
I’ve gotten into the habit of only using one piece of scrap for these purposes, and saving it as an abstracted reminder of the creation process. The results always delight me, as they manage to produce a colorful record of brush and pen strokes in fluid and visceral play.
